Six months after the previous update, steel framing is now clearly visible from the runway at Hollywood Burbank Airport, where construction is actively underway on a new $1.3-billion terminal.
Under construction since early 2024, the terminal is taking shape on the northeast side of the airport. The 355,000-square-foot facility will feature 14 passenger gates, retail and dining options, a ticketing lobby, a new TSA checkpoint, and a baggage claim area.
The project will replace the airport’s aging terminal, originally built in the 1920s. Along with modern upgrades, the new layout improves safety by increasing the distance from the runways, while still using stair access to board planes rather than jet bridges.
The design-build team—Corgan, Holder, Pankow, TEC, CannonDesign, and Burns & McDonnell—envisioned a terminal with a sweeping roofline that flows into the airport’s parking structure facade. The look has been described as “evoking a silver screen in a public plaza.”
