The Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District has launched its largest competitive grant program to date The program is aimed at creating new green spaces and improving existing parks.
The 2025 grant cycle will offer a total of $58 million in funding for shovel-ready projects. A minimum of 30 percent of those funds will be allocated to communities designated as having high or very high park need, as outlined in the 2016 Countywide Parks Needs Assessment.
“This is more than a grant program—it’s a commitment to creating parks and open space in the communities that need them most,” said Los Angeles County Parks Director Norma Garcia-Gonzalez in a news release. “This $58 million investment has the power to deliver on the promises made to voters—transforming neglected spaces into vibrant parks, trails, and green infrastructure that will serve generations to come. We envision a Los Angeles County where every neighborhood has access, and where children and families can easily access a park, trail, or open space they can call their own.”
Of the total funds, $18 million will be dedicated to projects in need of planning and design services, with grants ranging from $100,000 to $500,000. Another $24 million will be awarded to initiatives focused on improving water quality, habitat, and open space, with funding between $500,000 and $4 million. The remaining $16 million will support upgrades to the County's parks and trail network, also with awards between $500,000 and $4 million.
In the last two years, the Regional Park and Open Space District has distributed $45 million for similar efforts and helped secure 623 acres of new parkland in Los Angeles County over the past year alone.
