Report: SoFi is Most Expensive Stadium Ever Built


The new SoFi stadium tops the list in a report ranking the 3o most expensive sports arenas ever built. The stadium in Inglewood, California cost $5.5 Billion. That figure is more than twice the cost of runner-up MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The East Coast arena cost $1.7 billion when it was completed in 2010 ($2.03 billion in today's dollars).


According to the report, when compared to other types of sporting arenas, football stadiums tend to cost the most, with the top three most expensive venues in the world being home to NFL teams. In this case, the Southern California arena has not one but two football teams calling it home, the LA Rams and the LA Chargers.


The report outlines some of the reasons for SoFi's price tag. At 3.1 million square feet, the stadium is the largest ever built and it boasts the largest video scoreboard in history, Additionally, it has the unique Southern California demands of seismic preparedness as well as certain construction considerations due to the stadium's proximity to Los Angeles International Airport.


The construction of the SoFi Stadium and Entertainment Complex required ten million worker hours logged by the 3,000 construction workers who built the stadium.
