Design Plans Revealed for "The Star" on Sunset

Los Angeles Department of City Planning has published a new environmental report outlining new details for the $500 million high rise, "The Star", in Hollywood. The 22-story office tower will be situated on approximately two-acres of land on Sunset Boulevard and will boast of 490,000 square feet of offices, 20,000 square feet of restaurant space as well as a 14,000-square-foot screening room.

There will be a rooftop dome atop the 420 foot structure encasing a sky garden and restaurant space. An additional two gardens are planned on the 10th and 17th floors. A funicular will run up the side of the building with access to the two gardens.

"Inspired by the curvilinear forms of the Griffith Observatory, Capitol Records Building, Hollywood Bowl, and the Cinerama Dome, [The Star] asserts a new typology for the office of the future," said Ma Yansong of design firm, MAD Architects, in a September 2021 news release.

The groundbreaking for the what will be Hollywood's largest new office building is expected in 2024 with construction completed by 2027.
