Monday marks the start of Construction Suicide Prevention Week. Contractors across the country will begin with a stand-down and a moment of silence in the afternoon.
Throughout the week, education opportunities such as toolbox talks and webinars will focus on raising awareness about the mental health crisis and its impact on construction.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, construction has one of the highest suicide rates of any occupation in the U.S. Both men and women in the industry face suicide rates above the national average.
Contractors are addressing this issue not only during the first week of September but throughout the year, working to break the stigma and provide resources for mental health support.
