Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. has completed construction of its second fabrication plant at its north Phoenix campus ahead of schedule, driven by rising demand for AI-related chips, the company’s top executive said on an April 17 earnings call.
TSMC CEO C.C. Wei said the company is “working on speeding up the volume production schedule” for its second fab, which will utilize advanced 3-nanometer process technologies. Wei did not specify a new timeline for production. Previously, TSMC planned to start production at this fab in 2028.
Wei also stated that TSMC intends to break ground later this year on a third fab, which will use cutting-edge 2-nanometer and A16 process technologies, pending permit approvals. The company will offer further updates on this project in the coming quarters.
