Councilmember DeLeon Takes First Step in Pushing for Contractor Oversight
On Wednesday, Councilmember Kevin DeLeon introduced a motion to establish a screening process allowing for more contractor oversight in Los Angeles. This is intended to insure quality standards are maintained in construction throughout the city.
DeLeon's motion charges city government to initiate a process to generate a working list of pre-qualified, reputable contractors and motivate other contractors to take part in the screening process.
In a press release from his office, DeLeon says, “This is just a first step toward ensuring that all development in Los Angeles protects the rights of construction workers from being exploited through disdainful practices like wage-theft and the failure to provide basic benefits, The city must exercise its control to promote equity and safeguard working families. LA can and must do better.”
