BDN's Top Five Stories of Year

2023 showed little sign of the stagnation of a few years ago as major projects broke ground, many as a result of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. It was an important year in the battle against worker exploitation as more definitive and undeniable reports were released assessing wage fraud, worker misclassification, and their impact. We saw construction workers become heroes as they showed up to save the day in times of emergency. And to cap things off, and perhaps the best indicator of a return to normal, major marquee entertainment projects were completed this year in Las Vegas.

1. The largest dam removal in history was begun this year in Oregon and California.

2. Disaster on Interstate 10 as fire almost shuts down freeway for months.

3. Groundbreaking new report on misclassification released.

4. Two highly anticipated California high speed rail projects look to be on track.

5. It remains to be seen if Las Vegas's inaugural F1 race and the new MSG Sphere will be successful in the years to come.
